If you don't know the shipping industry, it can be hard to understand what it is actually about. As a shipping apprentice at Jutlandia, you work in oil, gas and wind — an industry where the components keep getting bigger and heavier, and where we put on our helmets and follow along from the front row. You are part of the project coordinator team in our agency and act as the link between Jutlandia's other departments, the customer, the shipowner and the ship's crew.
Your tasks are wide-ranging:
- Port and ship agency tasks
- Project coordination
- Contact with customers and shipowners, both in Denmark and internationally
- Logistics support
- Order handling from start to finish
What many people find most exciting about shipping is making everything fit together, finding the right solutions and seeing the planning succeed. You are in contact with people all over the world, and you learn to make quick decisions.
The responsibility you want
At Jutlandia, you get the responsibility you want — and that you are ready for. We know that the best way to learn is to try things yourself and be involved where it happens. Our most important task is to turn our apprentices into the sharpest shipping professionals on the market, and we do that by handing over responsibility. And there are always colleagues around to help you.
Work or school?
The programme is a two-year apprenticeship with around 10 weeks of school — the rest is real work with real responsibility. Most of our apprentices really appreciate that there is more work than school.
And psst: you are paid an apprentice wage throughout your training. So no student grant (SU) needed.
An apprentice network for all our wonderful apprentices
It is good to be able to share ideas, both professionally and personally, with other apprentices. Our internal apprentice network connects you with the other apprentices and makes sure you quickly feel part of the community. Activities and nights out are planned regularly — just for apprentices and with the rest of the company.
A world of opportunities
Whether you want to stay in shipping, continue your studies or try something completely different, a shipping qualification opens many doors. It is easy to find a job, there are good opportunities for a career abroad, and there are several programmes you can build on top of it.
